[February 23, 2021]  The Railers hosted Mattoon on Monday night and defeated the Green Wave 50-36.

The game was off to a slow start, with Lincoln trailing 5-2 around the 4:00 mark. Adam Grunder’s three would edge the Railers closer to the Wave 8-7. The game would be tied 9-9 at the end of the first quarter.

Lincoln took the lead early in the second quarter on a basket by Elijah Pollice. But the Green Wave jumped ahead 15-11 at the 2:35 mark.

A three by Whiteman and a quick layup by Dylan Singleton put the Railers back on top 16-15.

Whiteman would close out the quarter with a jumper to give Lincoln an 18-15 halftime lead.

The Railers began to pull away from the Green Wave in the third quarter. Pollice started things off with a two and that was followed by a string of threes by the Railers. First Grunder hit a three, next Singleton popped a three, then Pollice connected from long distance and finally Landon Hullinger hit a three from his favorite corner spot. Can you imagine how crazy Railer Nation would be going at this point? Just wait.

With under a minute left in the quarter Lincoln was in the lead 36-20 and then something spectacular happened.
Lincoln was wanting that last shot and they got it in a big way. Andrew Graue spotted Hullinger under the basket and the alley-oop pass was perfect to the leaping Hullinger. “Lando” slammed it home for two points and the Lincoln lead was 38-20 at the end of three. By this time, Railer Nation would be absolutely losing their mind, led by their ringleader, Austin O’Donoghue. If only things were different….

Moving on to the fourth quarter, it was business as usual for the Railers. The mission being to keep that lead and make those free throws. The Railers did just that by sinking 10-of-12 from the free throw line. Add a two-point field goal in the mix from Singleton and the Railers win easily 50-36.

Lincoln was led by Dylan Singleton with 19 points. Brody Whiteman keeps stepping up for the Railers and he scored 11 points on this night.
