Mother Nature does NOT act
responsibly on New Year’s Day

It may be that Mother Nature got a little tipsy over the New Year
and as such became the life of the party, giving us all "something
to talk about."
On New Year morning, many folks woke up to a rather hefty coating of
ice. The recorded total was a one-quarter inch of accumulation of
ice on power lines and trees. Fortunately, the temperatures were
warm enough that it didn't cause a lot of issues on roadways.
Throughout the day on New Year's Day, there were reports of
transformers blowing up and power lines breaking in and around the
Lincoln area.
Later in the evening, light snow fell on top of the ice.
On January 2nd, residents around the area awoke to a light coating
of snow, but all appeared to be calm around the community.

Forecasts for Sunday morning included fog with visibilities down to
zero in the Lincoln area until noon.
However, instead, the community awoke to a relatively thick coating
of snow. No official measurement has been decided but just at a
glance; it appeared to be two to three and more inches around Logan
County.
Reviewing the old wives' tale regarding snow this past weekend
brought out total snow events to four with a possible 12 more in our
future.
The first tracking snow fell on December 16th, meaning 16 snowfalls
for the season. The second light covering came on December 23rd,
then snowfalls three and four came on January 1st and 2nd.
On the bright side, none of these snows have been significant. And,
perhaps none of the 16 will be, but there is always that chance for
the "big one."
On the other hand, there is another old saying; "Whatever on New
Year's Day you do, that you will do the whole year through." Let's
hope that one doesn't come true!
