Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois (CAPCIL) ended 2020 full of gratitude for the support of its community partners.

CAPCIL’s mission is strong and focused on helping persons of low income develop and escape of the gripes of poverty while making a positive impact in communities within their service area. However, the employees are only a small part of that. The people who volunteer their time to help deliver meals, stock the food pantry, assist in the classroom or help maintain our facilities are an integral part of their success.

Even during a pandemic, volunteers showed up and donated over 16,300 hours with a financial impact of over $128,000. CAPCIL’s volunteer program gives persons an opportunity to learn new skills, stay active, earn food for their household while boosting their personal development. In return, the agency can focus their resources on program development, compliance, and effective program management. Volunteers make the agency stronger and more efficient.

CAPCIL is thankful for the business/organizational partners and community members who provide funding, make donations and hold collections in their honor. The agency receives a large portion of funding through Federal and State grants however, some of the funding restrictions can create gaps in services.

Private unrestricted donations allow them to fill the gap, continue services when funding is delayed and help those in crisis situations. Private unrestricted donations, big or small, are vital and provides the agency additional financial stability. These donations were exposed as even more critical during challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“During the pandemic, the CAPCIL staff showed up, the volunteers showed up, and the donors showed up when the need was the greatest. The three combined helped CAPCIL’s programs continue without hesitation and helped those in the most desperate need.”, said Agency Development Director, Breann Titus
