One of the loveliest words in our English
language is the word "adoption," not because it is particularly
poetic (does anything actually rhyme with adoption?), or because the
word sounds beautiful. Adoption is a lovely word because of the
mechanics it represents. When we adopt an animal, we make that
animal part of us. It is an action of commitment, relationship love
and devotion.

Our theme in this edition of the Animal Stories
magazine is "Animal Adoption," the process of desiring, seeking and
finally filling a hole in our lives. When we adopt an animal, it is
always a rescue! And often we are the ones who are rescued.
Finding the right animal, the right pet, begins in your heart. You
open your life to include the possibility that another life in your
life might be just right. And so you begin making room, creating
accommodations, hatching plans, having hopes and experiencing joys.
There are many opportunities for adoption: the cat that shows up at
your back door cold and starving, the dog that a family had to give
up at animal control or a shelter, and of course pure bred animals
from breeders. All of these are valid choices. Follow your heart.
We have included articles in this edition of Animal Stories magazine
to support you in your quest for animal adoption and make it a
success. We wish you the very best.
