On Saturday, there was an overwhelming response to the opportunity
for free disposal of old televisions in Logan County. The
electronics collection event sponsored by Logan County government
brought in hundreds of televisions as the line of vehicles snaked
through the Logan County fairgrounds and extended all the way south
to Fifth Street on Postville Drive.
A few minutes before 1 p.m. it was determined that the volunteers
working to unload vehicles had taken all they could. Because the
event was scheduled to last until 2 p.m., the dozens of cars still
in line were directed to drive to the city of Lincoln Public Works
building on the east side of town. There, the trash televisions were
unloaded and will be hauled away at a later date.
Many of the vehicles coming into the fairground had multiple units
for recycling, and the dozens of volunteers scurried to get the cars
and trucks unloaded as quickly as possible.

Even so, several motorists reported that they were in line 90 minutes to two
hours waiting their turn to get rid of their trash.
The event hosted by Logan County was manned by a large number of volunteers
including members of Logan County government, Lincoln Street Department staff
and some of the city’s aldermen, county board members, members of the local Boy
Scouts, and others who just came to pitch in.
