Lindsey Fink named ALMH 2021 DAISY award recipient

[June 02, 2021]  Lindsey Fink is the recipient of the DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Fink was nominated by a patient at the nonprofit hospital to receive the award. In the nomination form, the patient wrote, "One of the nurses stands out as a shining star. Lindsey’s compassion, empathy and gentle manner was just what my son and I needed. She has a soft and soothing voice and is so comforting, always taking her time to talk with my son.”

Fink is a registered nurse on the acute care unit at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital. She graduated from Methodist College in Peoria in May 2020 and has a bachelor’s degree in animal science from West Virginia University. Fink and her husband live in Lincoln with three dogs and two cats.

Fink was recognized in front of her co-workers and hospital leaders. She received a certificate and a hand-carved sculpture called “A Healer’s Touch.”

The nonprofit DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died in 1999 from complications of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, a rare blood disease in which the immune system wipes out otherwise normal platelets.

The care Barnes and his family received from nurses during his illness inspired this unique way of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

Any nurse at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital may be nominated for the award. Nomination forms are available throughout the hospital or online at DaisyFoundation.org.
