The Little Giants from Canton came to town on Friday afternoon to take on the Railsplitters in Class 3A Regional Baseball action.

Canton was quick to score in the early innings and stun the Railsplitters in the end with a 5-3 win, ending Lincoln’s season in the first round of Regionals.

In the top of the first inning, the Little Giants started the game with a leadoff single from Lukas Goforth. Goforth was quickly caught stealing. The no. 2 hitter, Gage Bayer, struck out. But with two outs, the Little Giants smacked three consecutive singles and scored two runs off Lincoln starter Lucas Konczyk.

In the top of the second inning, Nick Oldfield reached base on an error. He scored on a triple by Joel Skilesu. Skilesu came racing home on a dropped third strike and the Little Giants were on top 4-0. The Railsplitters got out of the inning on a double play.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Lincoln plated three runs. Trey Schilling started the inning with a base hit to left. Seth Tungate reached on an error by the left fielder. Dylan Singleton then tore the cover off the ball (almost) ripping a triple to deep center, driving in Schilling and Tungate. Keagan Ferguson drove in Singleton from third with two outs. Tanner Strampp was then hit by a pitch and with runners at the corners, Sean Raffa popped out to end the inning with the score 4-3.

The Little Giants struck again in the top of the seventh inning. A leadoff triple was absolutely crushed to dead center by T.J. Myers off Lincoln’s Tanner Strampp. Trent Koehler entered the game for Lincoln on the mound and he was nearly out of the inning after two quick strikeouts. But a single up the middle by Jackson Gray drove home Myers from third and Canton took a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning.

Strampp drew a leadoff walk in the seventh, and he would be replaced at first base by the courtesy runner, Daulton Miller. Jackson Gray retired the next three Railsplitters on a strikeout, fielder’s choice and a ground out.
