[March 04, 2021]

Letters were sent out on Tuesday, March 2nd, to 587 residents regarding the Union Street Sewer Project. Addresses for the letters were not just to Union Street residents but also to homes where the higher traffic volume may be impacted by detours.

The City of Lincoln, along with L. Keeley Construction, is sending the letters, and L. Keeley will be placing door hangers also at impacted addresses.

This most recent sewer project is a mandate from the IEPA. It is hoped that everyone will understand that this project may interrupt things in town, but it has to be done.

If residents have questions regarding the project, the letter mailed will include contact information for Christy Crites with Crawford, Murphy and Tilley, the lead engineers on the project.  There is also an email address where concerns may be sent in writing.

Below is the letter sent out on Tuesday:

Dear Affected Home Owner,

The City of Lincoln wants to keep all residents and especially those directly affected by the sewer construction along Union Street aware of project progress. The new contractor, L. Keeley Construction, will be beginning construction very soon and intends to begin the work along Union Street soon after mobilization. The work will require road closures along Union Street that will impact both homeowners along Union Street and those that will experience increased traffic due to detours. Our primary goal is to keep those impacted informed and provide an open line of communication with all parties.

To that end, the City of Lincoln will be using the following processes:

• Our engineer, Crawford, Murphy & Tilly and City Staff, will be distributing door hangers to those residents that will be directly impacted by a road closure at prior scheduled closure.

• A map of the boundaries of construction will be on our website so residents can see the overall area impacted by the construction. Updates on construction schedules will be posted to keep the community aware of closures.

• The contractor, L. Keeley Construction, will be distributing letters to residents directly impacted by road closures as they work along Union St reet.

Resident's concerns may be addressed to the following email address, unionstreet@
lincolnil.gov  to submit any questions or concerns.
This will be sent on to the engineer, City of Lincoln and the contractor to expedite resolution.

Please know that your elected officials are working to minimize your inconvenience due to this construction project. If there is an emergency, please contact our Engineer, Christy Crites, at 217.572.1092 and she will respond promptly. We are looking forward to a successful project and look forward to an open line of communication with our residents.

Thank you for your patience.

Acting Mayor
City of Lincoln
