Lady Railers pick up conference win over Effingham
- Kloe Froebe scores 26 points in the 49-39 win

[March 05, 2021]  The Lady Railers played a great game Thursday night at Roy S. Anderson Gymnasium and defeated their Apollo Conference opponents, the Effingham Flaming Hearts, by a final score of 49-39.

The Flaming Hearts dashed out to a 2-0 lead to start the game.

The Lady Railers were quick to tie on a basket in the lane by Kloe Froebe. Lincoln took a 4-2 lead on a basket by Reese McCuan. After Effingham took a 7-4 lead, it would be Froebe putting the Lady Railers back in front after a three from the top of the key. Lincoln was on top 9-7 with 2:10 left to play in the first quarter.

Just before the quarter came to a close Froebe managed to put back the offensive rebound and Lincoln held an 11-7 advantage at the end of one quarter of play. Froebe tossed in 9 of those 11 points.

Becca Heitzig got Lincoln fired up in the second quarter as she extended the lead to 14-7 with a three. The Railers were up 19-9 after a basket by Froebe. Effingham continued to battle and with under four minutes to play the score was 22-15.

Baskets by Froebe and Jazmyn Robbins stretched that lead out to 26-15. Effingham would score before the half ended and settle the score at 26-18 as the teams headed to the locker rooms.

Lincoln used a 7-0 run to start the third quarter and widened the gap to 33-18.

Emily Paulus started things off with a field goal, followed by a Froebe three and another key basket by McCuan. Jenna Bowman also got in on the scoring action and she made the score 35-23.

After a basket by Froebe the Lady Railers ended the third quarter with a 37-25 lead.

The Lady Railers continued playing great defense in the fourth quarter and the freshmen continued to step up and score.

Heitzig hit a huge three midway thru the quarter to give Lincoln a 42-30 lead.

Froebe’s layup and the free throw that followed put Lincoln in the driver’s seat, 45-32 with around three minutes left to play.

Robbins would complete the Lady Railers scoring with a couple buckets.

Lincoln improves to 7-7 overall on the season. The Lady Railers are 5-6 in the Apollo Conference.

In the JV game the Lady Railers won 40-29 over Effingham. Jenna Bowman and Becca Heitzig each led Lincoln with 10 points.

The Lady Railers will host Springfield on Saturday at Roy S. Anderson Gymnasium. The JV game will start at 1 p.m. The Varsity game will start at 2:30 p.m.
