[March 08, 2021]  The Lincoln Railers returned home on Saturday evening to play their second basketball game of the day. The Railers hosted Chatham Glenwood and defeated the Titans 40-30.

The Railers fell behind early 2-0 on a basket by the Titans Eli Curtis but Landon Hullinger was quick to hit a three to give Lincoln the lead.

Curtis put the Titans back on top with a three before Brody Whiteman tied the game 5-5.

The Titans would go ahead again on another three by Curtis. Dylan Singleton’s baseline drive drew the Railers closer, 8-7 the score. A basket by Wes Anderson put the Titans up 10-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Lincoln would take a 12-11 lead in the second quarter behind five quick points from Hullinger. It wouldn’t take the Titans long to jump back in front 16-13 after Parker Detmers hit a three.

In the final thirty seconds of the quarter Lincoln would get a bucket in the lane by Brody Whiteman followed by a Lincoln steal and Singleton acting fast to toss a one-handed layup thru the hoop at the buzzer. Lincoln was in front 17-16 heading into the locker room.

Singleton stretched the lead to 19-16 early in the third quarter. Then a three by Singleton padded the lead 22-16. A three by Austin Bush cut the lead to 22-19. After Curtis hit another three the Lincoln advantage was just 23-22.

Luckily for Lincoln Whiteman hit one from downtown to give the Railers a 26-22 lead and the third quarter scoring was in the books.

The Railers finally pulled away from the Titans in the fourth quarter. It would take back-to-back threes by Singleton and Hullinger to get the Railers in a groove. The Railers lead was 32-25 with 4:05 left to play.

Elijah Pollice extended that lead to 34-25 on the feed from Whiteman in the lane. After Hullinger spotted Pollice under the basket and quickly dished off to him for another two points, the Lincoln lead was looking better, 36-25 the score.

Never count the Titans out too early, though. A three by Bush and an easy two by Curtis pulled the Titans to within six, 36-30 the score with a minute left to play.

With the Titans forced to foul, they picked on Whiteman and that was the wrong guy. Whiteman went 4-for-4 from the free line down the stretch and Railers picked up their second win of the day. The final score was 40-30.
