Recently, Logan County lost a pillar of our community when Scott Brown passed away from his battle with cancer. Scott served this community as a friend and mentor for over 40 years and used Lincoln Tae Kwon Do as the means to deliver a message that hard work, integrity, and perseverance paid off.

As a Logan County Deputy, his firm but fair approach to interactions with the public in a criminal justice setting gained him respect and led to many friendships. His years of devotion to teaching DARE and leading the Role Model program through the local high schools were as important to him as anything he did in his law enforcement career.

It is in that spirit that we would like to announce the formation of the Deputy Scott Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund. As our community continues to grieve the loss of Scott, this fund will help to keep his memory alive through helping students achieve their dreams of success.

Members of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, the Lincoln Police Department, and Scott’s family met to develop a path forward to make this memorial scholarship possible. This memorial fund will offer a scholarship to four Logan County residents annually who are graduating seniors from each of our high schools.

To raise money for the memorial fund, we have begun planning a golf outing that will take place July 16th at the Elk’s golf course in Lincoln. If you or your business would like to donate to the golf outing, please feel free to contact Christy Fruge or Rod Boyd. Team sign up forms will be available soon. Information regarding the sign-up forms, donations, and hole sponsorships will be forthcoming.

Donations to the Deputy Scott Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund can be mailed to or dropped off at the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, 911 Pekin Street, Lincoln, IL 62656, or sent to the Farmers Bank of Mt. Pulaski.

Through this community’s generosity to the Deputy Scott Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund, Scott’s memory will continue to live on. As Scott often said, “Everyone is a role model. Choose to be a good one.”
