[March 20, 2021]  The Lincoln Railers football team opened their 2021 spring season in Charleston on Friday night versus the Trojans. The night belonged to Cory Spour, who scored four touchdowns for the Trojans in the Apollo Conference opener.

The Trojans scored at the 5:04 mark in the first quarter on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Braden Reynolds to Sam Schuette. Connor Woodley kicked the extra point and Charleston was on top 7-0.

The second quarter was all about the Trojans #25 Cory Spour. With 9:02 on the clock in the second quarter, Spour trotted in to score with no one around him and after another good kick by Woodley, the Trojans were up 14-0. Minutes later Spour scored a touchdown on an 83-yard run. Again the kick was good by Woodley and with 6:39 on the clock the Trojans lead was 21-0. A minute later it was Spour again on the run. This time the play was a 29-yard sprint just over the pylon, good for the touchdown. The kick again was good by Woodley and with 5:39 on the clock the Trojans were up 28-0. Spour would score his fourth touchdown of the quarter with 2:04 left in the first half. His touchdown run from the 5-yard line set the score at 34-0. The kick by Woodley was off so the score remained 34-0 at the half.

A couple more Trojan touchdowns proved to be the story of the third quarter. Braden Reynolds scored a touchdown with 8:30 on the clock. Woodley’s kick was on the mark and that made the score 41-0. A 5-yard touchdown by Ty Coartney with just seconds left in the third quarter stretched the Trojan lead to 47-0. Woodley’s extra point made the score 48-0.

Charleston scored one more time in the fourth quarter. A 15-yard touchdown run by Hunter White dashed any hopes of a Railer victory, the score was now 54-0 with 6:50 left to play in the game. Woodley missed this kick but the Trojans still celebrated a 54-0 win over the Railers.

The Railers fall to 0-1 in the Apollo Conference.

Lincoln will host Rantoul Friday night in Week 2.
