[March 29, 2021]  LINCOLN - Betty Wankel, 91, of Lincoln passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at The Christian Village in Lincoln.

Service:  A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2021 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral home in Lincoln

Obituary

Betty Wankel, 91, of Lincoln passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at The Christian Village in Lincoln.

Betty was born on February 14, 1930 in Virginia, the daughter of Albert and Etta (Sappington) McDowell. She married Glenn Wankel on June 18, 1950. He preceded her in death on October 1, 1991.

Betty is survived by her children, Melody (Danny) Deacon of Springfield, Roger Wankel of Springfield, Linda Jones of Lincoln and Lora (Noble) Webster; six grandchildren: Gwen (Randy) Ely, Stephanie (Steve) Lowe, Doug Wankel, Derek (Amanda) Wankel, Phillicia (Chaz) Deason, and Phillip Aughton; four great-grandchildren: Tyler Hundt, Chase Reed, Eric Wankel, and Faith Wankel; three great-great grandchildren: Jersey Hundt, Rhys Hundt, and Everly Ross; two step great grandchildren: Amy (Aaron) Phillips and Ashleigh Lowe; two step great-great grandchildren: Ophelia Phillips and Bryce Lowe.

 

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and six half brothers and sisters.

Betty worked at the State Bank of Lincoln, Lincoln Developmental Center, and Illinois Department of Revenue, where she retired from. She loved playing bridge, going to garage sales, loved watching basketball whether it was local, college, or professional, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her loving family.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2021 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral home in Lincoln, Illinois with Ernie Harvey officiating. Memorials may be made in Betty’s name to the Logan County Food Bank or the First United Methodist Church in Lincoln.
