COVID-19

This past Saturday, the Logan County Department of Public Health offered coronavirus vaccines to the public via appointment. At mid-day, staff administering the injections took a lunch break and returned to find the next round of appointments ready and waiting to get the first of two doses of vaccine.

The LCDPH will be offering the Moderna two-step vaccine throughout April.

[March 30, 2021]  As of last week the state of Illinois opened covid vaccination to anyone 18 years of age and older.

Vaccines for youth are still in development.

The Logan County Department of Public Health is the lead group coordinating local vaccinations and is offering several clinics a week. Covid vaccination clinics are also currently being held one day a week at Abraham Lincoln Hospital.

On Saturday the health department vaccinated people all day and there are five more clinics scheduled in the next two weeks. The schedule includes a couple Saturday's and even some evening hours to help everyone find a time to get vaccinated.

Clinics at LCDPH:

• April 1 (filled)
• April 7
• April 10
• April 13
• April 14 (evening hours available)

On Saturday the clinic worked like clockwork with people getting in and out in under a half-hour.

The department had three large conference rooms set up with numerous chairs and a cot beside each. Everyone is asked to wait 15 to 30 minutes after their vaccination in case of a reaction.

The Moderna vaccine being given is a two-dose. At registration each person rescheduled to come back in four weeks and given an appointment reminder card for their next second dose.

The vaccine available at ALMH this last Wednesday was the one dose Johnson and Johnson.

The vaccines are at no cost to everyone.

A photo ID is required at the Health Department clinics, and if you do have health insurance you are asked to bring your card.

According to the LCDPH the health department is currently administering the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine which, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has demonstrated a 94.1% effectiveness rate in clinical trials. The FDA has approved the Moderna vaccine for individuals over the age of 18.
