The Railsplitters played at Effingham Saturday in Apollo Conference baseball action and the Hearts defeated Lincoln by a final score of 6-2.

Lincoln threatened to score in the first inning with the bases loaded and no outs. Dylan Singleton led off the game with a single. Lucas Konczyk reached base on an error. Keagan Ferguson then took a trip down to first after being hit by a pitch. Effingham’s starter on the mound, Jackson Lee, then struck out the next three batters to escape the bases-loaded jam.

Lincoln starter Devyn Snow would retire the Flaming Hearts in order in the bottom of the first inning.

The top of the second inning saw Lee issue two walks but no damage was done as he again struck out three Lincoln batters to end any scoring threat in the inning.

In the bottom of the second inning, Snow issued two walks and after a fielder’s choice and a single, the Flaming Hearts were up 2-0.

Lee made quick work of the Railsplitters in the third inning, retiring the side on a pop out and two strikeouts.

In the bottom of the third inning, an RBI triple by Christian Raddatz off Lincoln reliever Trent Koehler accounted for another run and the Flaming Hearts lead grew to 3-0.

In the top of the fourth inning the Railsplitters got on the board with two runs. A leadoff single by Sean Raffa and a walk to Daulton Miller started the offense for Lincoln. Raffa and Miller then pulled off the double steal to get into scoring position with Seth Tungate in the batter’s box. Tungate sent a double to centerfield and both runners scored to make it a 3-2 game.

The Flaming Hearts added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on an RBI single by Max Hardiek.

Lincoln got a leadoff single from Trey Schilling to start the top of the sixth inning and that knocked the Effingham starter out of the game. The reliever, Josh McDevitt, entered the game and retired the next three Railsplitters to end the inning.
