Hilltoppers blank Stags 15-0

Mount Pulaski hosted Hartsburg-Emden last Thursday and A.J. Bailey and Landon Smith combined to no-hit the Stags en route to a 15-0 win.

The Hilltoppers offense exploded for five runs in the first inning. A.J. Bailey started the game with a double to center. Evan Cooper followed with a single to right field, bringing home Bailey with the first run of the game. Cleanup hitter Landon Smith doubled to bring home Cooper. The hit parade continued as Gavin Smith tripled to center, scoring Landon Smith. Gavin Smith would score on a groundout by Garrett Fitzpatrick. Grant Davis scored the fifth run of the inning on a wild pitch.

Bailey struck out the side in the second inning.

In Mount Pulaski’s half of the second inning, the Hilltoppers plated six runs. A leadoff double by Clay Aylesworth started things off. Aylesworth stole third and scored on the catcher’s error. Cooper added an RBI single to drive in Bailey. Landon Smith had a sacrifice fly to score a run. An RBI double by Gavin Smith scored another Hilltoppers run. Batting around in the lineup, it was time for Aylesworth to step in the batter’s box again. The sophomore smacked a single to left field that scored two more runs. Mount Pulaski’s lead was now 11-0.

Bailey struck out the side in the third inning.

Mount Pulaski added a run in the bottom of the third inning on an inside-the-park home run by Drew Martin.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Mount Pulaski plated three more runs to end the game. Landon Smith drove in two runs on a triple and then he scored on an error by the right fielder.

Mount Pulaski wins 15-0 in four innings.

A.J. Bailey picked up the win for Mount Pulaski. Bailey tossed three innings and struck out eight batters. He issued no walks.

Landon Smith pitched an inning in relief, striking out three batters and hitting one.

Offensively for the Hilltoppers, both Gavin Smith and Clay Aylesworth were 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. A.J Bailey, Landon Smith and Evan Cooper had two hits apiece for Mount Pulaski. Drew Martin added the other hit for the Hilltoppers, who had 13 team hits.

Mount Pulaski improves to 5-0.
