Mount Zion sweeps Railsplitters in doubleheader

The Mount Zion Braves swept Lincoln on Saturday in a doubleheader. The Braves won game one 6-3 and game two 12-1.

Game One
The Braves scored a run off Lincoln starter Sean Raffa in the top of the first on an RBI triple by Ryan Buttz to go ahead 1-0.

Lincoln scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-1 lead. Lucas Konczyk led off the inning with a base hit to left. With two outs in the inning Daulton Miller reached on an error. Seth Tungate singled to center to load the bases for Dylan Singleton. Singleton sent a line drive to left field for a base hit that drove in two runs and Lincoln was on top 2-1.

In the top of the third inning the Braves reclaimed the lead on a two-run single by Cohen Leach. The Braves also scored runs in the top of the fourth and fifth innings to take a 6-2 lead over Lincoln.

In the bottom of the sixth inning the Railsplitters scored a run on an RBI single by Konczyk. Lincoln was threatening to score more with runners at second and third and only one out, but the Braves retired Trey Schilling on a groundout to third and then retired Miller on a strikeout to end the inning.

The Railsplitters could not get any offense going in the seventh inning and took the 6-3 loss.

Sean Raffa was the losing pitcher for Lincoln. Raffa pitched four innings, giving up six hits and four runs. Trent Koehler pitched three innings in relief and gave up two runs on one hit. Koehler struck out five batters.

The Railsplitters had seven hits versus Mount Zion.

Dylan Singleton was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Lucas Konczyk was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Keagan Ferguson, Seth Tungate and Trent Koehler each had base hits for Lincoln.

Jonathan Oliger was the winning pitcher for Mount Zion. Oliger tossed seven innings and struck out nine batters. He walked one.

Game Two
The Braves jumped all over Railsplitter pitching early in game two. Jaden Klopp started game two for Lincoln.

Two walks, an error and a double off Klopp put the Braves on the board with a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Lincoln scored their only run of the game in the second inning. With the bases loaded via two walks and a single, the Railsplitters scored their lone run when Trent Koehler was hit by a pitch, bringing home Sean Raffa. The Railsplitters stranded two runners as the inning ended on a pop fly to right field by Keagan Ferguson.

The Braves added an RBI single in the top of the third to make the score 4-1.

RBI doubles by Ethan Hamrick and Aidan DITommaso in the fourth inning padded the Braves lead. After a passed ball scored Hamrick the Braves lead was 7-1.



An RBI single and an RBI double stretched the lead to 9-1 in the Braves half of the sixth inning.

Mount Zion scored three more times in the seventh inning off Lincoln pitching. The Braves won the game by a final score of 12-1.

Dylan Singleton took the loss for Lincoln. He pitched four innings in relief, giving up five runs on four hits. Singleton struck out four batters.

Wyatt O’Donoghue and Patrick McCraith also pitched in relief for Lincoln. Railsplitters pitching struck out seven Braves in the game but also issued seven walks.

Offensively the Railsplitters managed just three hits in the game. Keagan Ferguson had two hits and Andrew Graue had one hit, all singles.

The Railsplitters committed five errors in the game.

Ryne Buttz got the win for Mount Zion. He tossed five innings, allowing just one run on two hits. He struck out six batters.

Lincoln falls to 9-4 overall on the season.

The Railsplitters will host New Berlin today at 4:30 p.m.
