Lincoln Railsplitters celebrate Senior Night with an 11-0 win over New Berlin

[May 12, 2021]  Lincoln hosted New Berlin Monday afternoon and with senior Lucas Konczyk on the hill the Railsplitters coasted to an 11-0 win over the Pretzels.

Konczyk tossed the complete five-inning game and allowed just one hit, no walks and struck out five batters.

The Railsplitters were quick to score in the first inning. Leadoff man Dylan Singleton reached on an error by the third baseman to start the game. Singleton stole second base just ahead of Trent Koehler’s bunt single back to the pitcher. With runners at the corner, Keagan Ferguson drew a walk to load the bases. Tanner Strampp reached on an error to the shortstop, and two runs scored on the play. Konczyk helped his own cause when he slugged an RBI single to left, scoring Ferguson. The Pretzels retired the next two Railsplitters on fly balls but the 3-0 lead was a good start for Lincoln.

The fourth inning was huge for the Railsplitters. Eight runs crossed the plate. Seth Tungate started the inning with a single. Tungate stole second and scored on the base hit by Singleton. After a walk to Koehler, Ferguson tripled to centerfield. Singleton and Koehler both scored on Ferguson’s hit and the Railsplitters lead was 6-0. After Strampp was hit by a pitch, Sean Raffa stepped in the batter’s box and smacked a line drive to center to score Ferguson. With runners at the corners, Patrick McCraith walked to load the bases. The Pretzels troubles continued on the mound and two runners scored on passed balls to give Lincoln a 9-0 lead. Two more runs scored when Trent Butterfield hit a ball to second base and the second baseman committed an error. McCraith and Tungate scored on the play and the Railsplitters were up 11-0 when the fourth inning ended.

Konczyk retired the side in the fifth inning on a groundout, strikeout and a pop out.

Lincoln wins the shortened game by the 10-run rule.

The 11-0 win over New Berlin improves the Railsplitters record to 10-4 on the season.

Lincoln had six hits in the game.

Dylan Singleton was 1-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Keagan Ferguson was 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs. Seth Tungate was 1-for-2 with two runs. Lucas Konczyk was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Sean Raffa was 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Trent Koehler was 1-for-1 with two runs scored. Tanner Strampp scored a run and drove in two runs.

Three pitchers took the bump for New Berlin, with Evan Hardness taking the loss. Hardness last three and one-third innings and gave up seven runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out two.

The Lincoln senior baseball players honored Monday afternoon along with their parents ahead of the first pitch were Patrick McCraith, Trent Butterfield, Lucas Konczyk, Seth Tungate, Keagan Ferguson, Tanner Strampp and Dylan Singleton.

Lincoln will host Teutopolis today at 4:30 p.m.
