Visitation:  10:00 a.m. to Noon Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln

Service:  Noon Wednesday at the church

Obituary

John H. Richert, 101, passed away at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln on May 6, 2021.

John was born on May 23, 1919 in Effingham, son of Martin and Lydia (Leppin) Richert. John married Viola K. Haseley on April 11, 1948 in Lincoln. Viola preceded John in death on April 15, 2003.

Surviving John are his son’s: Leslie “Les” (Theresa) Richert of Lincoln, and Kenneth “Ken” (Karen) Richert of Beason, grandchildren: Kathie (Jim) Williams, Jennifer (Scott) Shaffer, Cathy (Todd) O’Donohue and David Vale; great grandchildren: Alexis Richert, Kaycee (Chris) Bernhardt, Ashley Bonaparte, Shaylyn O’Donohue, Nathan O’Donohue, Lacy Vale, Jordan Vale, Savanna Shaffer, Rachael Williams, and Katie Williams; great-great grandchildren: Chesnee June Bernhardt, and Harmony Bonaparte.

John was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and one sister.

John proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. John was the first person off his ship driving his wrecker during the Battle of Normandy and he fought in Northern France, the Ardennes, the Rhineland, and Central Europe. John earned many Medals and Honors during his service time including: 1 Service Stripe, 3 Overseas Service Bars, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with Silver Battle Star, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.

 

He was a retired farmer, owned and operated Richert Electric and T.V. and a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln.

Services for John will be 12:00 Noon Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln, IL with Rev. Mark Thompson officiating. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service also at the church, 10:00 a.m. -12:00 Noon. Burial at New Union Cemetery will follow the service where full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post # 263. Memorials may be made in John’s name to Zion Lutheran Church.

Services are entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
