Lincoln played at Heyworth on Wednesday afternoon and after the Lady Railers tied the game in the seventh inning to force extras, the Hornets scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game 4-3.

Heyworth scored a run in the bottom of the first inning on a ground out to jump out to a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Railers loaded the bases in the third inning but only managed to plate one run. Emily Paulus walked to leadoff the inning and Abbie Glenn and Cara Farnam hit back-to-back singles to load the bases for Ryen Stoltzenburg. A ground out by Stoltzenburg scored a run to tie the game 1-1. After Mya Kirgan walked, the bases were loaded again for Malena Kirgan. She hit into a double play to end the inning.

Heyworth recaptured the lead in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI ground out and an RBI single. The 3-1 score held until the top of the seventh inning.

Lincoln started the seventh inning with Paulus reaching on an error and Glenn slugging a single to left field. Farnam then singled to right to score Paulus. Stoltzenburg grounded out to first and Glenn was able to score the tying run. The Hornets retired the next two batters and Farnam was left stranded at third.

With the game knotted 3-3 the Hornets batted in the bottom of the seventh inning. Farnam was able to retire the Hornets on three ground outs, so the game headed to extra innings.

Neither team was a threat to score until the bottom of the ninth inning. Heyworth started the inning with a single to right field. That runner was thrown out trying to steal second. The next batter singled for Heyworth and advanced to second on a ground out. With two outs, Lincoln was nearly out of the inning. But on a ground ball to second, the batter would reach on an error and the baserunner came flying home on, safe on another error to end the game.

The Hornets sting the Lady Railers with a 4-3 walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Cara Farnam suffered the loss and pitched eight and two-thirds innings for Lincoln. She allowed four runs, only one earned run. She had six strikeouts and issued one walk.

The Lady Railers defense committed six errors in the field.

Emma Slayback was the winning pitcher for Heyworth. She tossed nine innings and struck out seven Lady Railers. She gave up three runs on nine hits.

Cara Farnam was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Glenn was 2-for-5 with a run scored. Mya Kirgan was 2-for-3. Emily Paulus and Chloe Johnston each had a hit for the Lady Railers.
