Railsplitters split with Mahomet-Seymour

[May 27, 2021]  Lincoln hosted Mahomet-Seymour on the baseball diamond Saturday and the Railsplitters won game one 10-8 but lost game two 11-8.

Game One

The first game was back and forth between Lincoln and Mahomet-Seymour. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Lincoln tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the second inning as Daulton Miller drove in two runs.

The Bulldogs regained a 4-2 lead in the top of the third inning.

Lincoln tied the game 4-4 in the bottom of the third inning on a two-run single by Sean Raffa.

The Bulldogs plated three runs in the fourth inning to lead 7-4.

That lead stood until the Railsplitters plated six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to go ahead 10-7.

The inning started with back-to-back singles by Keagan Ferguson and Tanner Strampp. Raffa reached base on a fielder’s choice. Lucas Konczyk singled to load the bases for Trey Schilling. Schilling hit a single to left, scoring Strampp and Raffa. Seth Tungate singled to left to load the bases for Lincoln again. This time Dylan Singleton cleared the bases with a triple to center and the Lincoln lead was 9-7. Trent Koehler also tripled to drive home Singleton to make the score 10-7.

A run by the Bulldogs in the top of the sixth inning closed the gap to 10-8.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Bulldogs got two base runners with two outs, but Koehler was able to strike out the last batter to end the game.

Lincoln won the game 10-8.

The Railsplitters had 13 hits in the game.

Dylan Singleton was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Sean Raffa was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Trent Koehler was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Keagan Ferguson was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Tanner Strampp was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Daulton Miller had two RBIs. Seth Tungate, Lucas Konczyk and Trey Schilling also had hits for Lincoln.

Trent Koehler earned the win for Lincoln. Koehler worked three and one-third innings, allowing seven runs on three hits. He struck out two batters.

Tanner Strampp pitched three and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on six hits. He struck out two batters.

Game Two

Mahomet-Seymour struck for four runs in the top of the first inning Saturday afternoon off Trey Schilling. The Bulldogs added a run in the top of the second inning to take a 5-0 lead.

Lincoln scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game. Dylan Singleton led off with a single. After advancing to second on a passed ball, Singleton scored on Trent Koehler’s base hit to center. Keagan Ferguson added a single to left and Koehler moved over to third. Sean Raffa’s single to right scored both Koehler and Ferguson. Lucas Konczyk’s single to short stopped Raffa at second. Patrick McCraith then hit an RBI single to right to score Raffa, while Konczyk advanced to third. Konczyk scored the tying run on a passed ball.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Bulldogs plated four runs to recapture the lead, 9-5 the score.

Lincoln got a run back in the bottom of the fourth inning as Singleton led off the inning with a triple. Singleton tagged and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ferguson.

The Bulldogs added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to pad the lead, 11-6 the score.

With one out in the bottom of the sixth inning, Singleton and Koehler hit back-to-back singles. Singleton advanced to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch. Raffa hit a single to right to score Koehler. After the Railsplitters were retired on a fly ball to end the sixth, the lead was 11-8 in favor of the Bulldogs.

A walk and an error to start the bottom of the seventh inning was promising for the Railsplitters, but the Bulldogs retired the rest of the Railsplitters on pop flies and the game was over.

Mahomet-Seymour won game two 11-8.

Trey Schilling took the loss for Lincoln. Schilling lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing nine runs on eight hits. He struck out three batters.

Trent Koehler worked two and one-third innings, allowing four hits and two runs. He struck out one batter.

Wyatt O’Donoghue pitched to two batters in the seventh inning. He allowed one walk and recorded one strikeout.

Dylan Singleton took the mound to retire the Bulldogs in the seventh inning on a strikeout and a ground out, but not before issuing two walks.

Lincoln had 10 hits in the game.

Dylan Singleton was 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Trent Koehler was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Sean Raffa was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Patrick McCraith was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Keagan Ferguson was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Lucas Konczyk was 1-for-4 with a run scored.

The Railsplitters record is now 14-6 overall.

Lincoln will play at Jacksonville today at 4:30 p.m.
