The Saturday Paint the Paper Pink picture features the staff from the city of Lincoln Municipal Services building. This includes city street crews, street department superintendent, the building and zoning officer and office staff. The group was also happy to show off the new truck recently purchased for use in the street department.

The truck is a modern-day beast of burden. It will be used for snow plowing and spreading of salt and cinders when the weather grows nasty this year and in years to come. During the non-winter seasons, it will be utilized for other tasks.

The truck can carry a heavy load and shed its cargo throughout the day as workers travel the street with it.

This reminds us that hearing "you have breast cancer" is the beginning of a new journey for all diagnosed. That person becomes their own beast of burden of sorts as they go through their days with the battle ahead of them. At the same time, they have that opportunity to shed some of that weight by allowing others to help them. Breast cancer is personal, but at the same time, it is communal. It impacts families and friends of the one battling, and even though it may feel like a burden to all, it is one most will gladly share if that makes the load a little lighter for the warrior.

Friends and family want to be there, want to help warriors carry that burden. If you are a warrior, let those around you join you in the journey. They need to help you, and you need them to.
