For Saturday's Paint the Paper Pink pictures, we have six local businesses or organizations showing their support for our cancer warriors in Logan County.

Each of these six groups represents some different type of business or service within our community. Yet, they are all the same in that they know and love people who are fighting or have fought a battle with breast cancer.

Different, yet the same is the theme of today's mini-lesson on breast cancer. Breast and cancer are two different words that can be mind-numbing to the listener when placed side by side. It is essential that everyone understand there are different types and stages of breast cancer. Hearing all that the doctor says is very important as warriors prepare their action plans and go into battle.

For this reason, it is often recommended that a patient bring along a friend or loved one to 'help them listen" to what the doctor will say. Ask someone to go with you and bring a notepad. Write down what is said and ask questions about words you don't understand. Let your companion assist you with this so that when you leave your appointment you have information that you can review when your mind is ready for it.

Thanks to Atlanta National Bank, Bard Optical, Logan County Department of Public Health and SIU Medicine, Lincoln Park District, Modern Brake and Sal Police Edward Jones Investments for showing your support for breast cancer warriors.

Illinois American Water has been working on a huge project in Lincoln that includes a new water treatment plant and a new water tower on the city's west side. The tower structure is now complete and is adorned with the city of Lincoln logo featuring an image of a beardless Abraham Lincoln, as he would have appeared when he christened our town.

Illinois American is pleased to announce that the new tank was named Second Runner-up in the Tnemec nationwide Tank of the Year contest. The Lincoln tower will be included in the 2022 Tenemec water tank calendar.
