St. John United Church of Christ to host two events on September 11th
-Rock & Stroll fundraiser to benefit Welp Family
-20th Anniversary of 9/11 Remembrance service

[September 10, 2021]    Rock ‘N Stroll Fundraiser - St. John United Church of Christ is sponsoring a Rock ‘N Stroll Fundraiser on Saturday, September 11, 2021 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at their bus barn behind the church at 204 7th Street in Lincoln.

Participants can bring a rocker and rock with the group or can stroll, walk or run the square block around the church or any route they would like to choose. Pledge forms are available at the church or can be filled out at the event.

This event has been set up to benefit the Welp family with medical expenses incurred with the treatments for their daughter, Emma. On October 11, 2020 Emma (age 6) complained of a ‘bad headache’. She was air-lifted to Children’s Hospital in Peoria, Il for surgery for a brain bleed, when it was discovered she had a tumor on her brain stem – a stage IV DIPG (diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma) a type of tumor found in area of the brain stem known as ‘the pons’. At this time there is no cure for this rare cancer and it is inoperable. Emma bravely underwent 6 weeks of radiation treatments. Shortly after an MRI revealed cancer cells in the spinal fluid Emma took pills and infusions to battle all this with unbelievable strength and grace until she ‘was called to her heavenly home May 23, 2021’.

Friends are wanting to help the family with all the medical expenses with this fundraiser. Donations can be given at the event, sponsor one of the ‘Rockers or Strollers’ or sent to St. John UCC church with designation to “Emma Welp Fund”.

20th Anniversary of 9/11 ceremony

St. John United Church of Christ invites the public to join them in a service of remembrance of the 20th anniversary of September 11, 2001. The service will be held in the sanctuary of St John 204 7th Street in Lincoln at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 11. The service will be conducted by pastor Laurie Hill with organist Laura Lee providing music for worshipper’s remembrance and reflection.

Sanctuary is set up for social distancing guidelines and masks are required.
