[September 20, 2021] Unseeded Danish teen Clara Tauson upset No. 3 seed and defending champion Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to win the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open on Sunday.

The 18-year-old Tauson claimed her second title, having won in Lyon as a qualifier in March in just her second Tour-level main draw appearance. She also defeated U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu in the Chicago WTA 125 final last month.

She needed two hours and three minutes to put away Latvia's Ostapenko. Tauson finished with 31 winners (eight aces) and just six unforced errors -- none in the deciding set. She broke Ostapenko's serve for the fourth time in the final game.

Appearing in her first WTA final, unseeded Italian Jasmine Paolini defeated No. 3 seed Alison Riske 7-6 (4), 6-2 to claim her maiden title in Portoroz, Slovenia.

Paolini, 25, converted six of her 10 break chances, including three of Riske's four service games in the second set. Paolini saved three of seven break points in the one-hour, 45-minute match.

Paolini reached the final by rallying to upset No. 2 seed Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in Saturday's semifinals.
