[September 19, 2021]    The Lincoln Heritage Museum at Lincoln College has a new special exhibit scheduled to open September 11 titled, Always Remember: Commemorating 9/11 After 20 Years.

The new exhibit features a piece of steel beam from Tower 1 of the World Trade Center, an American Airlines flight attendant uniform worn in New York City on September 11, items given to victims’ families, and more.

Lincoln Heritage Museum partnered with the Lincoln Arts Institute to create a collaborative, community memorial painting that will also be on display. Children participated in the creation of the commemorative painting during the Balloons Over 66 Festival August 27-28.

Free admission to Lincoln Heritage Museum is offered on September 11 and September 20-25, 2021.

“The exhibit is unique because it provides a local perspective on a national tragedy,” said Olivia Partlow, Director of Lincoln Heritage Museum.

Prior to the Lincoln Heritage Museum’s public opening of its new exhibit at 1:00 p.m., a private ceremony will be held to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The invitation-only event will host first responders and veteran’s organizations from the Logan County community.

"Although I hoped to be able to invite the public to our commemoration, COVID changed our plans. I'm so glad that we were still able to do something special for the first responders and veterans in our community," said Partlow.

Local veteran, Michelle Ramlow, is set to speak about her experience at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Lincoln College alum, Tom Gilbertson ’69, will also share his experience working at the World Trade Center in New York City during the terrorist attacks.

The exhibit will continue to be open to the public until the end of December 2021. The exhibit is sponsored by the Marine Corps League- Robert E. Graue Det. #1336 and the VFW Post 1756 & VFW Post 1756 Auxiliary.
