Hartem Stags win the 2021 St. Anthony High School Volleyball Tournament

[September 23, 2021] On Saturday the Stags won the St. Anthony High School Volleyball Tournament in Effingham with a 5-0 record on the day.

The Stags swept all their competition in two sets on Saturday.

In pool play, Hartem defeated Shelbyville 25-22 and 25-18. The Stags then took down Sullivan 25-12 and 25-13. The Stags finished off the pool competition with a win over St. Anthony, 25-13 and 25-16.

In bracket competition, the Stags breezed past Okaw Valley 25-15 and 25-12 in the semi-finals before meeting up with the hosts one more time for the championship.

In the championship match, it was Hartem over St. Anthony 25-15 and 25-9.

Stags setter Avah Classen also notched her 1,000 career assist while playing in the tournament. Hartem Coach Jennifer Hayes called a timeout when the milestone was reached in order to congratulate the senior in front of the crowd.

Classen has verbally committed to play volleyball at Parkland College in Champaign next year.

Stags Leaders for the St. Anthony Tournament:

Cassie Crabtree - 6 aces - 21 kills - 4 blocks - 9 digs

Addie Beekman - 5 aces - 31 kills - 3 blocks - 11 digs

Gentri Fangmeier - 5 aces - 41 kills - 4 blocks - 7 digs

Avah Classen - 4 aces - 6 kills - 6 blocks - 101 assists

The Stags improved to 15-1 on the season.
