Railsplitters top Peoria Notre Dame 8-2

[April 05, 2022]  Lincoln hosted Peoria Notre Dame on Monday afternoon at Mike Curry Field and the Railsplitters won 8-2 fueled by a six-run second inning.

 

In the bottom of the second inning, the Railsplitters took advantage of six walks and a hit-by-pitch by Peoria Notre Dame pitching. Jaden Klopp and Trey Schilling also added RBI singles in the inning to help guide the Railsplitters to a 6-0 lead.

 

Peoria Notre Dame scored twice in the top of the fourth inning off Lincoln starter Trent Koehler. 

 

The Railsplitters scored two more runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning. After two quick outs, Lincoln loaded the bases on singles by Trey Schilling, Alex Hoffert and Andrew Graue. Schilling would score on a wild pitch and Hoffert would score on a bases-loaded walk to Colbie Glenn. 

 

Lincoln held on to the 8-2 lead for the win. 

 

The Railsplitters had seven hits versus Peoria Notre Dame.

Trey Schilling led the Lincoln offense with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate and two runs scored along with an RBI.

 

Colbie Glenn, Sean Raffa, Andrew Graue, Jaden Klopp and Alex Hofffert each had a hit for Lincoln.

 

Trent Koehler (1-0) earned the win for Lincoln. Koehler threw six and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs on three hits. He struck out 10 batters.

 

Aidan Nemeth pitched to the final batter in the seventh inning, inducing a grounder right back to the mound for the final out of the game.

 

Lincoln improves to 2-3 on the season.

 

The Railsplitters travel to Mahomet-Seymour today for a 4 p.m. game with the Bulldogs.
