Lady Railers Softball notches a 2-2 record for the week

[April 08, 2022]  The Lady Railers softball team started last week off on a winning note on Monday and finished on a winning note on Saturday. Sandwiched in the middle were a couple losses as the team now sits on a 5-3 record this season.

Morton 3

On March 28th the Lady Railers hosted Morton and a walk-off fielder’s choice in the bottom of the seventh inning by Taryn Stoltzenburg allowed Lincoln to squeak by the Potters 4-3. 

Morton took a 2-0 lead over Lincoln in the top of the fifth inning, but the Lady Railers came back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead. Cassie Bridge and Cara Farnam had RBI singles in the inning for Lincoln.

Morton tied the game in the top of the seventh inning off Lincoln starter, Cara Farnam.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Stoltzenburg’s fielder’s choice with one out proved to be an exciting game-winner for Lincoln. 

The Lady Railers had seven hits in the 4-3 win.

Cara Farnam (4-1) was the winning pitcher. Farnam tossed seven innings and struck out 10 batters. She allowed three runs on five hits. Farnam walked four batters.

On March 29th the Lady Railers were defeated 13-9 by Limestone. 

Lincoln led 9-2 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Rockets really fired up their offense in the final two innings of the game. Limestone scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to trail 9-6 but then added seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, the final blow being a walk-off grand slam to break a 9-9 tie. 

Until that moment, Abbie Glenn had the big hit of the game, a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning. Glenn led the Lincoln offense with a 4-for-4 performance and five runs batted in. Cassie Bridge was 3-for-5 for Lincoln with three runs scored and an RBI. Chloe Johnston was 2-for-4 for the Lady Railers.

Chloe Johnston (0-1) took the loss for Lincoln. She tossed six and one-third innings, allowing 13 runs on 9 hits. She struck out five and walked five. Only three of the runs allowed were earned.

The Lady Railers did manage to split a double-header on Saturday, April 2nd with Mahomet-Seymour. 

The Bulldogs shut out Lincoln 7-0 in the first game. 

Cara Farnam (4-2) suffered the loss for Lincoln. She worked seven innings, giving up six hits and seven runs. Only two of the runs were earned. Farnam struck out six batters.

Faith Eckhardt and Abbie Glenn managed the only two hits for Lincoln in the 7-0 loss.

Lincoln bounced back to win game two over Mahomet-Seymour in their last at-bat by a final score of 3-2.

Abbie Glenn’s RBI single with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Taryn Stoltzenburg with the game-winning run. 

Lincoln scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning as Cassie Bridge led off the inning with a single. Bridge made her way around the bases and eventually scored the first run on the catcher’s error.

The Lady Railers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Faith Eckhardt’s RBI single scored Chloe Johnston. 

The Bulldogs scored runs in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game 2-2. 

While Glenn’s hit won the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, she was also the winning pitcher. Glenn (1-0) pitched the last two innings in relief, allowing just one hit and striking out three batters.

Chloe Johnston started the game for Lincoln. She tossed five innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Johnston struck out five batters.

The Lady Railers improved their record to 5-3 on the season with four games on the schedule for this week.

Lincoln will travel to Jacksonville today to play the Crimsons at 4:30 p.m.
