At the Monday night meeting of the Lincoln City Council, Mayor Tracy
Welch noted that Lincoln residents this week are receiving their
first billing from the new trash service provider, GFL.
He said there is a note on the bills that says, “Due to increased
costs, your next invoice may reflect a price increase.” Welch said
this is inaccurate. The company had placed that note in the billing
system by default and then was unable to remove it from the bills
issued to Lincoln residents.
Welch said that GFL is honoring their agreement with the city and
will maintain the same rate fee for 2022 as was in place in 2021.
There will be a rate increase coming, but not until 2023.
Residents within the city limits are encouraged to disregard the
note on the billing.
Welch also noted that this does not apply to Logan County residents,
living outside the city limits, but with Lincoln addresses. Those
rates are not subject to the contract between the city and GFL.
It was also noted that for those residents who make automatic
payments out of the checking accounts, the payments to Area Disposal
should be cancelled and a new auto-pay set up for the new company.

The city of Lincoln extended its contract with Area Disposal in
October of 2021 and at that same time learned that the company would
be selling to GFL. Aldermen were told that GFL would maintain the
agreement with the city as outlined in the extension documents.
There will be a rate increase in 2023 and each year thereafter
through the length of the contract, which will expire in 2026.
