[April 16, 2022]   Monday, February 28th was Rare Disease Day and Mt. Pulaski’s Zion Lutheran School kids had a special presentation by “Professor” Tinley Rubenacker.

Tinley has Diamond-Blackfan Anemia, a rare blood disease in which Tinley’s bone marrow does not make enough red blood cells. “Red blood cells are very important as they take oxygen to every part in your body,” Tinley explained. Tinley also talked about what it is like to have a port and how it is used to give her medicines and blood transfusions and then how the port is cleaned once the medicine or transfusion has been given.

For Lutheran Schools week (March 8-11) and the week after, Zion Lutheran School, Mt. Pulaski, held a Penny War, with all the proceeds going to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee, in Tinley’s name.

On March 30th in Chapel, it was all about the Penny Wars and Tinley! Zion raised $1306.95 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital! One thing is for sure, Zion is TEAM TINLEY! Tinley is scheduled to receive a bone marrow transplant later this year.

On Friday, May 20th, Zion is giving you a chance to help this family. Zion Staff is hosting a Nelson’s drive thru half chicken dinner. The upcoming dinner will help offset costs that Tinley’s mom, Haley Maus will have while in Memphis.

Pick up time for the meal is 4:30-6:30 pm. Tickets are $12.50 and can be purchased:
