Logan County Highway Department to commence bridge project in rural Mount Pulaski April 25th

Construction is about to begin on a bridge over the Lake Fork Ditch, south of Mt. Pulaski. The bridge is located about four miles south of Mt. Pulaski on 1725th Avenue, near the intersection with 200th Street.

The project is scheduled to begin the week of April 25th. The bridge will be closed to traffic during construction which will last about 3 months.

The existing bridge is 172 feet long and was built in 1964. The concrete bridge deck beams have significant deterioration and cracking.

The deck beams will be completely removed and replaced. Repairs will be made to the concrete pier caps. Riprap will be placed to prevent further erosion from the Lake Fork Ditch. New bridge rail will be installed, and a new asphalt overlay will be placed.

The project was awarded to County Contractors, Inc., located in Quincy, Illinois. The low bid on the project was $557,324.50. State bridge funds will be used for 80% of the cost. Logan County and Mt. Pulaski Township will use local property tax funds to split the remaining 20% local share.
