Trent Koehler crushes a grand slam as the Railsplitters defeat Lanphier 11-6

[April 26, 2022] The Lincoln Railsplitters handed the Lanphier Lions an 11-6 loss on Friday at Mike Curry Field as senior Trent Koehler cleared the bases on a grand slam in the third inning. 

 

The Lions took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

 

The Railsplitters scored a run in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI triple by Daulton Miller.

 

Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the third inning, the Railsplitters busted the game open by scoring nine runs off Lions pitching. 

 

Miller’s RBI double cut the lead in half and then a two-run double by Trey Schilling tied the game 4-4. Sean Raffa’s RBI single put the Railsplitters in front 5-4 and Lincoln continued to pour on the runs. A bases loaded walk to Colbie Glenn made the score 6-4. Two outs later Trent Koehler stepped into the batter’s box and crushed a grand slam over the centerfield fence, scoring Alex Hoffert, Andrew Graue and Glenn to make the score 10-4.

 

Raffa’s RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning made the score 11-4.

 

The Lions tagged Lincoln starter Sam Gleason for two runs in the top of the seventh inning and the final score was settled at 11-6. 

 

Gleason picks up the win after working seven innings and allowing six runs on 12 hits. Only four runs were earned. Gleason struck out nine batters and walked no one.

 

Lincoln’s lead-off hitter and newest Lincoln Land Community College baseball recruit, Trent Koehler, led the Lincoln offense at the plate. Koehler was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. His third inning grand slam broke the game wide open.

 

Sean Raffa was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Trey Schilling was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Daulton Miller was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. 

 

Alex Hoffert added the other base hit for Lincoln to bring the Railsplitters hit total to 10 versus Lanphier.

 

The Railsplitters improved their record to 8-6 with the win over Lanphier.
