Lady Railers Softball wrap-up

[April 26, 2022]    The Lady Railers softball team has already surpassed their team wins from last season, earning their 11th win of the season with a 5-0 victory over Canton on Friday, April 22, 2022. 

 

Lincoln 5

Canton 0

 

Cara Farnam pitched the complete game shutout for Lincoln against Canton. Farnam tossed seven innings, allowing just five hits and striking out ten batters. 

 

The Lady Railers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Abbie Glenn. 

 

An RBI single by Ryen Stoltzenburg and an RBI double by Malena Kirgan gave Lincoln a 3-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning.

 

A lead-off double in the top of the seventh inning by Cara Farnam would eventually lead to her scoring on an error and the Lincoln lead grew to 4-0. Alex Eads added an RBI single in the inning to score Taryn Stoltzenburg and make the score 5-0. 

 

Alex Eads ended her day a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate for the Lady Railers. 

 

Taryn Stoltzenburg and Abbie Glenn each recorded two hits for Lincoln. 

 

Cara Farnam, Chloe Johnston, Ryen Stoltzenburg and Malena Kirgan each had one hit.

 

The Lady Railers will host Bloomington on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 4:30 p.m.

 

 

Here is a brief wrap-up of the previous Lady Railers wins over the last two weeks.

 

Lincoln 11

Taylorville 4

 

On April 16th the Lady Railers put up some big innings at Taylorville to claim the 11-4 win over the Tornadoes. 

 

The Lady Railers pounded out 13 hits, with Chloe Johnston leading the way with three hits and two RBIs. Her two-run triple in the fourth inning was the big hit of the game. 

 

Alex Eads, Cassie Bridge and Faith Eckhardt each had two hits for Lincoln. 

 

Cara Farnam, Taryn Stoltzenburg, Abbie Glenn and Ryen Stoltzenburg each added a hit apiece in the win.

 

Abbie Glenn was the winning pitcher. She tossed seven innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits. Glenn struck out two batters and walked one.

 

Lincoln 5

Mattoon 2

 

On April 14th the Lady Railers scored early and defeated Mattoon by a final score of 5-2. 

 

Lincoln plated two runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Abbie Glenn’s RBI single scored one run and a couple errors made by the Green Wave accounted for another Lady Railers run. 

 

Ryen Stoltzenburg added an RBI groundout in the bottom of the fourth inning to increase the lead to 3-0. 

 

Mattoon scored a run in the top of the fifth inning. 

 

Alex Eads’ two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning blew the game open, 5-1 the score with Cara Farnam in the circle. 

 

Farnam gave up one more run in the top of the seventh inning but Lincoln claimed the 5-2 Apollo Conference win.

 

Cara Farnam earned the win by going the distance for Lincoln. She allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out four batters. Farnam walked two batters.

 

Alex Eads and Cara Farnam each recorded multi-hit games.

 

Lincoln 4

Athens 3

 

On April 11th the Lady Railers came from behind to defeat the Athens Warriors 4-3 in Lincoln.

 

Athens was ahead 3-1 when Lincoln batted in the bottom of the sixth inning. Faith Eckhardt’s RBI single plated a run for Lincoln. Cassie Bridge smacked a double to center that scored two more runs for Lincoln and put the Lady Railers on top 4-3. 

 

Lincoln’s Cara Farnam recorded two strikeouts and a ground out to end the game in the seventh inning and secure the 4-3 victory. 

 

Farnam earned the win by working seven innings and allowing three runs on six hits. Farnam struck out nine batters and walked one.

 

Cassie Bridge, Cara Farnam, Abbie Glenn, Ryen Stoltzenburg and Faith Eckhardt each had hits for Lincoln. 

 

Lincoln 10

Champaign Central 0

 

On April 7th Cara Farnam pitched a complete game 10-0 shutout versus Champaign Central. 

 

Farnam struck out nine batters and allowed just one hit over six innings of work.

 

The Lady Railers rattled the bats for 11 hits.

 

Cassie Bridge, Cara Farnam and Ryen Stoltzenburg each had two hits apiece. 

 

Taryn Stoltzenburg, Abbie Glenn, Alex Eads, Malena Kirgan and Faith Eckhardt each had a hit apiece.

 

Eads drove in four runs for Lincoln, including a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning. 

 

Lincoln 17

Jacksonville 0

 

On April 4th the Lady Railers crushed Jacksonville 17-0 on 18 hits.

 

The Lady Railers scored a run in the first inning on an RBI double by Abbie Glenn. 

 

Lincoln’s big eight-run third inning was highlighted by a two-run home run to center by Abbie Glenn. 

 

Lincoln added five more runs in the top of the fourth inning as Ryen Stoltzenburg and Cara Farnam added RBI doubles. 

 

Three runs in the top of the fifth inning allowed the Lady Railers a very comfortable 17-0 lead. Cassie Bridge’s RBI double here scored two runs for Lincoln. 

 

Cara Farnam picked up the win. Farnam was in the circle for five innings, allowing just two hits. She struck out 11 batters and walked three. 

 

Ryen Stoltzenburg was 4-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

 

Cassie Bridge was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. 

 

Abbie Glenn was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Glenn hit a home run in the third inning. 

 

Both Malena Kirgan and Cara Farnam had two hits apiece for the Lady Railers.

 

Rounding out the offensive attack with hits were Taryn Stoltzenburg, Alex Eads and Faith Eckhardt. 

 

After being swept in a doubleheader with Effingham on Saturday, April 23rd the Lady Railers record is 11-10. 

 

Effingham won those games 7-6 and 8-7.
