[August 19, 2022]

The Elkhart Historical Society is pleased to announce that Eric Snodgrass, who is a Science Fellow, Principal Atmospheric Scientist for Nutrien Ag Solutions, will be our featured speaker for our August 26, 2022 dinner lecture. Weather, which used to be a reasonably safe topic of conversation, can now be quite controversial, but at the same time is undeniably a huge factor in everyone’s life unless you live in an aquarium.

In his talk, “High Impact Meteorology,” Snodgrass will talk about high-impact weather events (like tornadoes, derechos, and flash floods/droughts) which have cost over $2 Trillion since 1980. Thankfully, advances in weather modeling and observations have led to earlier warning times, and it is rare that severe weather events catch us off guard. This same technology allows us to have weather information at our fingertips with weather apps and websites that provide us with the latest weather forecast information. Come learn how we got where we are today in weather prediction and what the future may hold.
