[August 30, 2022]  HARSTBURG - William “Bill” Lessen, 91, of Hartsburg, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022, at Timber Creek Village.

Visitation:  9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Lincoln First United Methodist Church

Service:  11 a.m. Thursday at the church

Obituary

William “Bill” Lessen, 91, of Hartsburg, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022, at Timber Creek Village.

Bill was born on November 7, 1930, in Hartsburg, the son of Heiko J. and Matilda (Sampson) Lessen. He married Frances Geriets on August 29, 1954, in New Holland. She preceded him in death on June 22, 2003.

He is survived by his children, Linda Maxey, Colleen (Jim) Anning, Susan (Jim) Gehlbach, Sarah Lessen; six grandchildren, Tyler Gehlbach, Kara (Matt) Cooley, Mallory Anning, Alexa (Riley) Laegeler, Shelby Lessen, and Ashley Lessen; and one great-granddaughter, Olivia Grace Cooley.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, wife; son, Dale W. Lessen; son-in-law, Gary Maxey; two brothers, Robert Lessen and Alan Lessen; and one sister, Majorie Bathe.

Bill was a lifelong farmer in the Hartsburg area, a former member of Hartsburg Methodist Church, and now a member of Lincoln First United Methodist Church. He was on the Hartsburg Methodist Church Council and Hartsburg School Board.

Services for Bill will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Lincoln First United Methodist Church with Reverend Brad Curtis and Ryan Edgecombe. A visitation will take place two hours prior from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Hartsburg Union Cemetery in Hartsburg.

Memorials for Bill may be made in his name to Lincoln First United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society, or the Hartsburg Emden FFA.

Services have been entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.
