Cookies and fruit the order of the day for the Harvest of Talents, Humane Society of Logan County and the Lincoln Rotary

You know the Christmas Season has officially arrived the Saturday when hungry shoppers can pick up sweet treats from three very special groups.

This past Saturday was the annual harvest of Talents Cookie Walk at the Lincoln Christian Church. This sale is first-come, first-served and shoppers are there and waiting when the doors open. After only a few minutes the long line of cookies laid out for shoppers to select a variety for a specific cost per pound, were nearly half gone. The cookies and other sweet treats are all donated to the cookie walk with the proceeds for the sale going to the Harvest of Talents for World Hunger fundraising efforts for 2023.

Leaving the downtown area of Lincoln, the next stop on a hungry shoppers list was the annual bake sale to benefit the Humane Society of Logan County. The event was hosted at the Lincoln Masonic Lodge on North Kickapoo Street. For those who were wise enough to order ahead, cookies were prepackaged with a wide variety in each box. Those shoppers were guaranteed to get their cookie fix.

But hope was not lost for those who attended on a walk-in basis. There were still a lot of cookies left, but also some other great food items. Shoppers had the option to choose cakes, pies, breads, browning and fudge. There were gift baskets prepared that could be purchased for a quick gift opportunity. And, of course, one would expect that at a bake sale for the humane society there would be at least a small selection of pet treats, toys and accessories. The HSLC did not disappoint.

To make the last stop, one only had to double back and drive back down North Kickapoo Street a short distance to Graue Chevrolet.

The popular Chevrolet dealership in Lincoln was the site of the annual Rotary Citrus Sale pick-up. Those going for citrus, had the luxury of going at any time during Saturday or Sunday this weekend, because the fruit was all pre-ordered.

Vehicles followed the signs for the citrus sale, driving around to the back side of the dealership, where Rotary volunteers awaited to grab what the customer had ordered.

The citrus sale is an annual fundraiser for the Rotary. Next year, the club is celebrating 100 years. There is a big celebration coming up in March 2023. Each container of fruit carried out to vehicles contained a “Save the Date” invitation for March 24th, with a promise of an amazing dinner and live entertainment by the Lincoln Community Theater. This is bound to be a memorable event, so keep your eye open for more details as the date approaches.
