The Lincoln Railers hosted their future (and past) Central State Eight opponents on Tuesday night, the Chatham Glenwood Titans, and gave them a glimpse of what they have been missing. The Railers drained 14 threes in the game and sent the Titans packing with a 61-23 loss.

Tyler Sasse dropped the first three of the night two minutes into the first quarter and he was quickly followed by a three from Trey Schilling. After layups by Ki’on Carson and Schilling, the Railers lead was 10-0 with 4:35 on the clock. Ten seconds later the Titans would finally get in the scoring column, trailing 10-2. Free throws by Jake Bivin and Aidan Gowin finished the Railers scoring in the quarter and they maintained a 13-5 lead over the Titans. The Titans struggled really bad in the first quarter with keeping control of the ball, having more turnovers than points, and the Railers used that to their advantage.

Lincoln was quick to get the offense going in the second quarter. Camden Nelson’s three early on stretched the lead to 16-5. Payton Cook then drained a three from the top and it was 19-5. The Titans continued to struggle with turnovers and after a steal by Carson resulted in a bucket by Gowin, the Railers lead was 21-7. A Sasse three increased the lead to 24-7. Carson added two more points to set the score at 26-9 and Lincoln was having no trouble handling the Titans. Both teams took their chances from the three-point range as the second quarter was quickly flying by. Lincoln beat the Titans in this category, too. Gowin and Nelson each knocked down two more threes, the last one being by Gowin ahead of the halftime buzzer and Lincoln was thumping the Titans 38-16.

With this game being the last home game before Christmas, the atmosphere inside Roy S. Anderson Gymnasium was particularly festive on this night. The cheerleaders did a halftime routine to “All I Want For Christmas” and that song had to leave Titans fans wishing, “All I want for Christmas is my team to score more points.”

The Titans woes continued into the third quarter. Jake Bivin banked a shot in to increase the Railers lead to 40-17. After another Sasse three made the score 43-17, Carson decided to join the fun from beyond the arc. Not only did Carson score one three, but drained another one with less than a minute left to play and sandwiched nicely in the middle of that was a steal and layup. Holy cow, the score is now 51-19 and Carson was having himself a great ballgame. So was Camden Nelson, who hit one more three for Lincoln from deep in the corner by where Patsy Zurkhammer and her husband, Wayne, sit to watch the games, after Patsy is finished in the ticket booth of course. Nelson’s three before the buzzer put a smile on everyone’s face with the score 54-19. Well, everyone except those Titan fans, who by now had to be singing to themselves, “All I want for Christmas is for the Railers to stop making those threes.”

A fast fourth quarter is something Railer fans look forward to, especially at Christmas with family in town. On this night the game did end quickly for Lincoln fans, but certainly not quick enough for the Titan’s fans. Nelson added one more three in the quarter to bring the Railer total to 14 on the night. Drew Hayes and Cadge Kingsley scored their buckets in the fourth quarter and this would finish the offense for Lincoln. The final score was 61-23.

Camden Nelson drained five 3s on the night for 15 points.

Ki’on Carson played terrific, scoring 12 points and also tallying five assists and three steals.

The Railers improved to 9-1 on the season.

In the JV contest, the Railers won 48-34 over Chatham Glenwood. Karson Komnick led the Railers with 13 points. Brady Miller added 11 points.

The Railers JV team is 6-0 on the season.
