Controversial issues:
As a
community we need to be able to talk openly about
matters that affect the quality of our lives. The
most effective and least offensive manner to get
your point across is to stick to the issue
and refrain from commenting on another person's
opinion. Letters that deviate from focusing on the
issue may be rejected or edited and marked as such.

To the editor: I live in
Mason county. My family has worked at Christian Homes and/or Eaton
for many years. We spend a great deal of time and money in Lincoln
and love the surrounding towns and areas.
My concern is what LMH [Lincoln Memorial Hospital] just did to this
and so many small communities nearby that will be directly affected
by the closing of their Labor & Delivery Dept.
I feel they have not taken into account all factors in their
decision. They cited community need for their acute care beds, BUT
there is, in fact, a need for women’s health services like a
Maternity unit right here in Logan county!
They have not spent one extra dollar trying to increase awareness of
the services that have been offered by their L&D Dept. Overlooking
them even on their banners that surround the hospital drive!!!! One
billboard in a decade?? Many people are not even aware of the
services offered by that L&D Dept!! Some don’t even know it’s there!
Where are women supposed to go when they have high risk pregnancies
?
What if there is a sudden onset preterm labor?
[to top of second column in this letter] |
There are too many what ifs to list where pregnancy
is concerned, but women will now have to go to [the] LMH Emergency
Dept only to find there is no L&D unit to be sent up to. No
specialized care, no experienced L&D nurses there with further
education in dealing with pregnancy issues! They will have to be
sent out, 30-45 min away.
LMH is a non profit, for the community business. Non
profit… for the community! If they serve just a handful of women a
year please remember that each woman is also the baby! The 200
patients served are actually 400!!! How do we put a price on even
one lost baby or mother?
Women in our area are already at a disadvantage because of the rural
area we live in. Already have limited options! How do we just let
this opportunity pass without speaking up for those who have used
this service, who now need this service and who will need this
service in the future??
How do we not speak up for our mothers, our daughters, our
granddaughters??
Thank you for your time!
Sincerely
Ruth Clark [Posted
