[January 31, 2022]   J. Frederick “Fritz” Onken, 94, formerly of Mason City passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Timber Creek Village in Lincoln.

Service: A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Mason City Cemetery beginning at 11:30 a.m.

J. Frederick “Fritz” Onken, 94, formerly of Mason City passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Timber Creek Village in Lincoln.

He was born on February2, 1927 in Mason City to Fred and Florence (Bantz) Onken. On June 20, 1948 in Easton he married Betty Cunningham who survives.

Fritz is also survived by daughter Debbie (Ken) Schweitzer of Lincoln, five grandchildren: Adam Schweitzer, Hilary Kelly, Elizabeth Onken, Jacob Onken, Michael Onken and four great-grandchildren: Caleb, Wyatt, Austin, and Alex.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jay Onken and four siblings: Rosanna Powers, Marjorie Lockenour, Bob Onken and Eileen Bramwell.

Fritz served in the United States Navy, worked as a farmer in Mason County and retired from Ainsworth Seed Company as Farm Manager. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Mason City and the American Legion Post #496.

He loved playing golf and attending sporting events for his grandkids, was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved being outdoors.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Mason City Cemetery beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Mason City.
