Thursday 7:30am:  Roadway and weather conditions diminished overnight. Please, BE AWARE: Vehicles that were stranded or crashed overnight might remain in the roadways for some time. They may also create additional hazards to the snow and ice already present. If you choose to drive on the rural or state roadways, do so with caution!

WEATHER UPDATE AND FORECASTS

ILLINOIS STATE POLICE DISTRICT 9 REPORT

As expected, road conditions in District 9 have already started to deteriorate. Officers have responded to numerous property damage crashes, as well as cars sliding off the roadways.

Road conditions in Logan County are especially slick and hazardous. ISP is asking you to stay off the roadways, and only travel if it is an emergency.

Lieutenant Jody Huffman
Acting District 9 Commander
Illinois State Police – District 9

While the best answer for the next few days may be to stay home, work remotely if possible, and stay warm and safe, it is realized that that is just not possible for some of us. We have to try to get to our jobs.

For those who must travel today and tomorrow, the Illinois Department of Transportation offers some helpful advice in two graphics.

Please, be safe out there today. Dress appropriately and be careful if you must drive, and be SURE to have an emergency kit to keep you safe if you get stuck in the snow.
