“The
purpose of the award is to recognize alumni who are making a
difference in their community,” said Foundation Executive Director
Chris Downing. “We encourage co-workers, family members, friends and
professors to consider taking a few minutes to nominate a former
Heartland student who deserves to be honored.”
Last year’s award winner was Dr. Justin Rickard, Associate Professor
of Animal Science at Illinois State University. Dr. Rickard teaches
a wide variety of animal science and food industry courses and is
involved with advising undergraduate and graduate students. He also
has a research appointment which focuses on improving livestock
production and food animal industries. Dr. Rickard started at
Heartland Community College and furthered his education at Illinois
State (B.S. and M.S.) as well as University of Missouri-Columbia
(Ph.D.).
