IBCA Top 60 Most Influential People of the last 50 years

In celebrating the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association’s and Title IX’s 50th Anniversary, the IBCA had media and coaches select the 30 most impactful people in Men's Basketball and the 30 most impactful people in Women's basketball during the last 50 years. We will be highlighting in alphabetical order one person a week from each category who our state selected for the Top 30 over the next 30 weeks, beginning on Thursday, January 20th. 

Neil Alexander
Lincoln High School


Coach Alexander began his coaching career at Joy-Westmer High School then moved on to Monmouth-Yorkwood and Bushnell-Prairie City High Schools. In 1990, Neil accepted the head basketball position at Lincoln High School and the rest is history. Entering into the 2021-22 season Coach Alexander had 882 victories and likely will have earned his 900th win before the season concludes.

At Lincoln, his teams have had five 30 plus winning seasons, sixteen 20 plus winning seasons, reached the Sweet 16 five times, the Elite Eight four times and have a 2nd places state tournament finish. Today, the IBCA Hall of Famer ranks 1st among active coaches and is 2nd among all-time coaches in Illinois. Neil has served as an IBCA President and is the recipient of the 2020 Chuck Rolinski Lifetime Achievement Award.
