Mahomet-Seymour slips by Rochester 34-33

[February 24, 2022] In the 7:30 p.m. sectional game Tuesday night at Roy S. Anderson Gymnasium, it was Mahomet-Seymour coming from a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat Rochester 34-33. 

 

The Lady Bulldogs of Mahomet-Seymour led 8-7 after the first quarter and by halftime, their lead was 16-12 over Rochester. 

 

It was the Lady Rockets using a big third quarter to take over the lead. With Rochester outscoring Mahomet-Seymour 16-7 in the third quarter, the Lady Rockets and their fans came alive with a 28-23 lead. 

 

 

Rochester, in fact, led the Lady Bulldogs 33-23 with 5:26 left to play in the game. But Mahomet-Seymour caught fire and made the comeback exciting for their small group of fans. An 11-0 run by the Lady Bulldogs to complete the fourth quarter was highlighted by the game-deciding basket with 38.7 seconds left by Nicole Taylor. 

 

It was an impressive comeback by Mahomet-Seymour, who slipped by the Lady Rockets by a final score of 34-33. 

 

Cayla Koerner led the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points.

Mahomet-Seymour improved to 28-4 with the win.

 

Rochester ends their season with a 24-10 record.

 

Mahomet-Seymour and Lincoln will play each other for the championship on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Roy S. Anderson Gymnasium.
