Defensemen Calvin de Haan and Connor Murphy also tallied to send the Blackhawks to their second straight win following a six-game skid (0-3-3).

The offensive production from the defensemen was a welcome sight for Chicago, considering blueliners Seth Jones and Jake McCabe entered COVID-19 protocol earlier on Tuesday. Jones spent the previous six seasons with Columbus before being acquired by the Blackhawks in a blockbuster trade on July 23.

Blue Jackets defenseman Adam Boqvist, who was acquired in that deal, logged over 20 minutes of ice time while playing in his 100th NHL game.

Columbus captain Boone Jenner scored his team-leading 14th goal and second in as many games. Gustav Nyquist collected a goal and an assist and Joonas Korpisalo made 16 saves for the Blue Jackets, who have lost four of their last five games.

Philipp Kurashev won a chase for a loose puck and fended off Columbus defenseman Jake Bean before sending a centering feed to de Haan. The Chicago blueliner made no mistake from the slot to give Chicago a 2-1 lead with 4:50 remaining in the second period.

The goal was the first of the season for de Haan, matching his total in each of the previous four seasons.

Murphy doubled the advantage at 6:36 of the third period after depositing captain Jonathan Toews' diagonal feed past Korpisalo. Murphy's goal was his third of the season.

Nyquist scored with 1:21 remaining in the third to trim the Blackhawks' lead to 3-2, however, DeBrincat sealed the win by finding the empty net. DeBrincat scored for the ninth time in his last nine games to boost his team-leading goal total to 23.

Jenner converted Nyquist's centering feed to open the scoring with 7:09 remaining in the first period.

The Blackhawks answered just 24 seconds later, with defenseman Riley Stillman alertly wiring a diagonal slap-pass to DeBrincat on the doorstep.
