Hilltoppers top Clinton 58-47

[January 26, 2022] Mount Pulaski hosted Clinton Tuesday night and the Hilltoppers earned the 58-47 win.

 

Mount Pulaski’s balanced scoring in the first quarter guided the Hilltoppers to a 9-8 advantage.

 

The Hilltoppers were up 25-21 at the half, with Lane Murphy and Cullen Tyson each tossing in five points in the second quarter. 

 

Clay Aylesworth caught fire in the third quarter and led the Hilltoppers with eight points. Gavin Smith would score five points in the quarter and that was all the offense for Mount Pulaski here. It was good enough for a 38-32 Hilltoppers lead.

 

With Murphy scoring nine points in the fourth quarter and Evan Cooper contributing eight points, including a 6-for-6 stint at the free throw line, the Hilltoppers continued to hold a solid lead over the Maroons. The final score was 58-47. 

 

Lane Murphy led the Hilltoppers with 16 points. Gavin Smith hit double-figures with 13 points. Evan Cooper scored 10 points. 

 

Mount Pulaski improved to 14-6 on the season.

 

In the JV game, the Hilltoppers defeated Clinton 38-32. Nolan Deibert led the Mount Pulaski JV team with nine points. 

 

Mount Pulaski will play at Riverton Friday night. The JV will tip-off at 6 p.m. and the Varsity is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
