The United Riders Motorcycle Club hosted Cruisin’ for
a Cause for Special Olympics on Saturday, July 9th at the Oasis
Senior Center.
The event is a multi-faceted fundraiser with all the proceeds from
the day going to the Lincoln Park District Special Olympics program.
The front parking lot at the Oasis was mostly filled with vehicles
of all sizes and shapes from motorcycles to a vintage fire truck,
classic cars, muscle cars, new cars, big trucks, little trucks and
little trucks with big engines. There was also one junior dragster
in the show.
On the side parking lot, tents were set up for visitors to sit in
the shade while enjoying a meal and in the lawn area behind the
Oasis, a pirate ship shaped bounce house provided extra
entertainment for youngsters.
Inside the large dining area at the Oasis there was a
huge selection of items that were being raffled. The gift baskets
and miscellaneous items were all donated to the organization by
local businesses and individuals.

Guests could buy a string of raffle tickets then go around to each item they
were interested in and place a ticket in a box.
At the end of the day, winning tickets were drawn from each box, making for many
happy winners.
There was also a bike raffle for children with a wide variety of bicycles on
hand from very small ones for the tiny tots to larger models for teen or
pre-teen youth.
Outside on the patio, commemorative tee shirts were being sold, again with the
profit from the shirts going to the Lincoln Park District Special Olympics
program.
The event on Saturday was well attended. The weather was ideal, not too hot,
nice a sunny, and most of the time a healthy breeze that kept guests comfortable
as they strolled around checking out the many vehicles on display.
