The rainy weather Saturday morning did not keep
people from attending the 13th Open Arms Christian Fellowship Family
Fun Day at Scully Park.
The Family Fun Day is a free event open to everyone in the
community. All around the park were a variety of activities from 11
a.m. to 6 p.m.
Fun activities for the kids included bouncy houses, carnival games,
inflatables, blow up slides and face painting.
Food included hotdogs, hamburgers, pulled pork, popcorn, cotton
candy, sno cones and funnel cake fries.
Those needing prayer could go to a prayer tent. Donna Doolin said
they would pray with anyone who needed prayer.
Under a big tent, individuals and local bands provided entertainment
throughout the day. Genres included rock and roll, country music and
Christian contemporary music.
During a torrential downpour around noon, inflatables had to be
taken down and games briefly halted.
The big tent provided cover from the storm for many. Pastor Larry
Crawford said we are excited to be here even in the rain.
After people crowded under the big tent listening to music and
visiting during the storm, the sun finally appeared. With the bounce
houses and games reopened, kids resumed their fun activities.
Church members graciously served throughout the park helping to
provide a fun filled day for the whole community. These volunteers
love being part of the day’s outreach.
Nancy Turner, who has volunteered at the event for many years, said
she loves Family Fun Day. She said kids love coming out and bouncing
in the bounce houses. For adults, Turner said, the chance to win
prizes is a fun part of the day.
Pastor Larry Crawford’s message at the end of the day is one of the
highlights for Turner.
Gathering with people from the community and helping with Family Fun
Day are what volunteer Julie Parker loves.

Youth band singer Mackenzie Santana loves the outreach and getting
to know the community.
Kids enjoyed the various activities offered throughout the park.
Caroline Klokkenga’s favorite game is the carnival clown. She also
loves the water slides and getting her face painted.
Ben Bryson loves the Hungry Hungry Hippo game.
Ella Crank said she loves the bouncy houses. Crank’s mother, Heidi
Graff said she loves the good safe fun provided at the event.
Because Family Fun Day is free, Graff feels it is a blessing to the
community.
The main event was scheduled for 5 p.m. At this time, there were
drawings for door prizes donated by local sponsors. The top prize
was $500 cash.
In the evening, the church’s youth band played, and Pastor Crawford
briefly spoke. An altar call at the end of the evening rounds out
the day’s events.
Church member Stan Parker has volunteered for the event the past
seven years. The altar call at the end is Parker’s favorite part of
the day since many dedicate their lives to Christ.
The 2022 Family Fun Day provided fun, food and fellowship for the
community and even the rain could not dampen people’s spirits on
this favored annual event.
