Joe Alexander filed in the capital city, on Monday, to run for the Republican nomination for State Representative in the new 87th State House district. The primary election will be held on Tuesday, June 28th.

“I am excited to announce and file my candidacy for state representative in this new district. I both live and have deep roots in the district. Illinois has numerous challenges. Some choose to complain about it, I want to do something about it! I am optimistic that Illinois’ better days are ahead of us. We can make the Land of Lincoln, a Greater Illinois.”

Alexander is a Clinton resident. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was a student athlete on the Fighting Illini’s track and cross-country teams. He is the father of college age sons. Politically, he served as District Administrator for retired US Congressman Tom Ewing, an Atlanta, IL native. In addition, he served as a Presidential appointee at the US Department of Agriculture under President Donald J. Trump. Alexander also served on Trump’s 2016 & 2020 campaigns for President. He is currently a consultant and small business owner.

The 87th district includes all or portions of Tazewell, Woodford, McLean, Logan, Dewitt, Macon, and Sangamon Counties. Larger communities in the district include Clinton, Lincoln, Warrensburg, Illiopolis, Morton, Tremont, and McLean to name a few. Legislative lines and districts have changed following the 2020 census.
