Spring training roundup: Aaron Judge powers Yankees past Pirates

[March 28, 2022] Aaron Judge had two home runs among his three hits as the New York Yankees powered their way to a 7-4 victory over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday at Tampa, Fla.

Josh Donaldson, Kyle Higashioka and Marwin Gonzalez also hit home runs for the Yankees to pick up right-handed starter Gerrit Cole, who gave up four runs (three earned) and four hits in two innings. He struck out five.

Diego Castillo and Cole Tucker hit home runs off Cole for the Pirates, while veteran left-hander Jose Quintana gave up three runs on five hits over three innings.

Phillies 10, Blue Jays 5

Bryce Harper hit two of Philadelphia's five home runs in a victory over Toronto at Dunedin, Fla. Didi Gregorius, Bryson Stott and Mickey Moniak also went deep for the Phillies, while Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Danny Jansen and Josh Palacios hit home runs for the Blue Jays.

Mets 7, Cardinals 3

Francisco Lindor hit a pair of home runs and Tomas Nido also went deep as New York defeated St. Louis at Port St. Lucie. Right-hander Jacob deGrom had five strikeouts in three innings for the Mets.

Orioles 5, Tigers 4

Ramon Urias and Robinson Chirinos hit home runs, while Rylan Bannon hit a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning as Baltimore defeated Detroit at Sarasota, Fla.

Twins 6, Red Sox 3

Trevor Larnach hit a home run and right-hander Joe Ryan pitched three scoreless innings as Minnesota defeated Boston at Fort Myers, Fla. Rob Refsnyder hit a home run for the Red Sox.

Rays 4, Braves 1

Left-hander Ryan Yarbrough did not give up a run over 3 2/3 innings, while Heriberto Hernandez had a home run among his two hits as Tampa Bay defeated Atlanta at Port Charlotte, Fla.

Astros 4, Marlins 3

Yuil Gurriel hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning to push Houston in front in a victory over Florida at Jupiter, Fla. Marlins left-hander Jesus Luzardo did not give up an earned run in four innings.

Cubs 13, Royals 12

Patrick Wisdom had two homers and four RBIs to lead host Chicago past Kansas City in a slugfest in Mesa, Ariz. The Royals' Ryan O'Hearn went 3-for-3, including two solo homers.

Mariners 7, A's 1

Adam Frazier went 3-for-4 and scored a run, and Matt Brash pitched three scoreless, hitless innings as visiting Seattle romped past Oakland in Mesa, Ariz. A's starter Frankie Montas gave up four runs and six hits in three innings.

Rangers 13, Diamondbacks 0

Jose Trevino had three hits -- two of them doubles -- and drove in a run, and A.J. Alexy threw three scoreless innings to pace host Texas to the easy victory over an Arizona split squad in Surprise, Ariz. The Diamondbacks were held to four hits.

Diamondbacks 5, Rockies 2

Christian Walker went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs to lead host Arizona past Colorado in a split-squad game in Scottsdale, Ariz. C.J. Cron homered for Colorado.

Rockies 4, Reds 4

Donovan Solano went 2-for-3 and scored two runs to help host Cincinnati tie a Colorado split squad in Goodyear, Ariz. Brian Serven's solo homer in the ninth tied the score for the Rockies.

White Sox 9, Dodgers 0

Luis Robert homered twice and drove in four runs, and Dallas Keuchel pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings as visiting Chicago shut out Los Angeles in Glendale, Ariz. The Dodgers were held to five hits by five White Sox pitchers; Chicago finished with 15 hits.

Padres 5, Guardians 1

Starter Yu Darvish limited Cleveland to one run and four hits in four innings as host San Diego beat Cleveland in Peoria, Ariz. The Guardians' run came on a homer by Oscar Mercado off of Darvish in the fourth.

Giants 6, Angels 1

Mauricio Dubon hit a two-run homer in the third inning to lead visiting San Francisco to the triumph over Los Angeles in Tempe, Ariz. Angels starter Patrick Sandoval gave up three earned runs in three innings.
